Common Folk Artist Collective is a group of 40 creators - ranging from visual artists, musicians, performers, and administrators/organizers - who are cultivating an inclusive creative community in North Adams, MA.

WE HAVE A NEW HOME!

Common Folk has always been about creativity, community, and making space for artists to thrive. After a period of deep exploration and strategic planning, we’re excited to share that we are taking on a residency at The Walkaway House to begin in the Spring of 2025.

What does this mean? A fresh space for a shared studio, private studios, screen printing, workshops, events, and a photography room—all designed to support artists and makers like you.

We’re elated by the support of Walkaway House owners Ben and Carolyn and really excited at all the possibilities this collaboration holds.

We are so grateful to our collective and community members who keep the mission alive and growing and have been crucial in the development of our collective future in the Berkshires.

Common Folk Artist Collective

Common Folk Artist Collective and the surrounding City of North Adams rests on the ancestral homelands of the Muhheaconneok or Mohican people (People of the Waters That Are Never Still) and the Wabanaki peoples.

Despite tremendous hardship in being forcibly relocated from these lands by Dutch, English, and US colonizers, today the Muhheaconneok or Mohican community resides in Wisconsin and is known as the Stockbridge-Munsee Community. The Wabanaki Confederacy, also known as The People of the Dawnland, include the Mi’kmaq, Maliseet, Passamaquoddy, Penobscot, and Abenaki Nations, who are indigenous to the lands with the English placenames Maine, Vermont, northwestern Massachusetts, and parts of Canada, and continue to reside in these areas.
